Our History

TEAM Alliance was founded in 2012, but the history of TEAM Alliance stretches back to 2007 when Bishop Lawrence Owino met retired UMC pastor Jane White-Stevens at a church conference. Lawrence had experienced firsthand the pain, hunger, rejection and loneliness of living on the streets. He responded to God’s call with a conviction to help the needy children of society and provide them with all that a child needs to grow to be a responsible member of society. Lawrence invited Jane to visit Gospel Harvest Ministries in Nairobi, Kenya. That was 2007. Since then, Jane has led teams into East Africa every year.
In 2010, Lawrence  founded the free, private Christian school of Kingdom Champions Academy. KCA ministers to the basic needs of faith, food, and education to the children of the Umoja slum in Nairobi, Kenya. In addition to free education, Children at KCA receive two wholesome meals every school day.
In 2012, Jane White-Stevens founded TEAM Alliance to provide hope to the people of East Africa, and especially the children of KCA. Currently, KCA now educates and feeds over 160 children from the Umoja slum of Nairobi. Bishop Lawrence oversees the distribution of funds and provides the necessary documentation to TEAM Alliance that helps ensure that every dollar donated is used for its intended purpose.

Our Statement of Faith

We believe there is one God who lives forever in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
We believe that the Bible is God's Word to the world, speaking to us with authority and without error.
We believe in the divinity of Jesus Christ the Son, in His virgin birth, His sinless life, His miracles, His death for us on the cross, in His bodily resurrections, His ascension to the Father, and in His personal physical return to rule the earth in power and love.
We believe that apart from God all humankind is lost in sin and selfishness and needs to turn from it and trust personally in the Savior, Jesus Christ, being born anew by the Holy Spirit's power into God's family.
We believe the Holy Spirit lives in us as believers and brings love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, humility, and self-control into our lives. He works in and through us with His gifts.  We believe in the resurrection of every person; to eternal life for the believer and eternal judgment for the lost.
We believe in unity for all believers in our Lord Jesus Christ and seek community together: to become more like Him in every way, who is the head of His body, the Church.
We are called to love Him and one another and are enabled to do this only as His life flows in and through us.
